Aston Martin has brought out the fastest convertible in its history: the new DBS Superleggera Volante.
Capable of reaching 211 mph – identical to the hardtop DBS – the new addition from the British firm is available to order now, at a price of 247,500 pounds sterling. That figure is £22,500 more than the coupé, but Aston claims that the “extra level of sensory overload that only an open roof super-GT can offer” justifies the premium.
The roof itself is the most advanced soft-top the company has ever produced, with eight layers of insulation and the ability to open it completely in 14 seconds – from inside the car or externally via the remote control. The mechanism is said to have gone through more than 100,000 developing cycles everywhere, from Nevadas Death Valley to the Arctic Circle.
The roof is compressed in the luggage compartment to a class leading height of 26 cm, maximising the space available for luggage. The hood is available in eight exterior colours, with six interior finishes available on request.
